Verdict

The Acer Aspire 7 laptop is a powerhouse of a laptop. It has all the necessary specs to support and fulfill all basic, complex, or professional computing needs. It is also good for playing games on it. However, its low amount of RAM and Bluetooth issue must be taken up seriously by the maker to make it even more competent.

Acer Aspire 7 Laptop & Variants Price

Introduction

Whether it is for your basic tasks done at home or complex tasks of your office, computational needs of your school or for creating your professional web development projects, and even playing a few high-end games on it, you will find that Acer Aspire 7 is one of the most reliable laptops.

You can rely on the specs of this elegant laptop to launch as well as empower your creativity. This device is packed with power, though a bit heavy nearing 5 pounds.

The ultrathin chassis houses the latest processor and a dedicated graphics card that can handle any job thrown at it most reliably and efficiently, no matter how complex it is.

Your creativity and productivity in jobs like web development will soar to a new height with the sharp and crisp visuals displayed on the good enough screen enabling you to complete even the most exceptionally detailed operations with ease.

You can take this unit wherever you want and start working on it whenever inspiration strikes, thanks to its fast boot-up ability and a fair battery life. With the power-off charging feature, the system will never be caught without power.

In addition to that, the system also promises a faster and stronger communication with its 802.11ac wi-fi 5 support allowing you to stream, download or browse conveniently and smoothly for long hours at a stretch.

Ideally, the system offers an internet connection speed that is up to three times faster than the previous generations to ensure a better user experience.

The RAM and storage are super-reliable and responsive and will allow you to open and edit large files with no problems, adding to your productivity.

Acer Aspire 7 Laptop

Buy for: Extensive connectivity, professional appearance, dedicated graphics card, fair enough battery life, fast communication.

Beware of: Slow performance, issues with Bluetooth, off-center trackpad, difficulty in upgradability.

Best uses for: Web development, small business, food and nutrition students, UX designing and other purposes.

The alternatives:

Design and Build

The Acer Aspire 7 laptop comes with a better design and high-level specs to meet with all your computing needs most comprehensively and successfully.

The modest dark design with a professional styling gives it an exclusive appearance and will never look out of place no matter wherever you use it.

The design includes a 15.6-inch screen which is large enough to let you see the images displayed on it clearly with all the minute details in it.

Acer Aspire 7 Laptop Display

Your viewing pleasure is further enhanced with its features such as the full HD resolution and widescreen with narrow bezels to offer 81.61% body to screen ratio.

The images exhibited are more intense and vivid with the shades and bright areas distinctly showcased due to the Acer Color Intelligence and Exa Color technology.

The IPS panel of the display offers a wider viewing angle. The images are displayed at 16:9 aspect ratio to make them look more vivid on this LED-backlit display which is energy efficient as well.

The machine comes with a fairly large backlit keyboard with a distinct 10-key number keypad.

The backlights allow accurate and easy typing in dimly lit settings or in places with no lights.

The numeric keypad ensures a faster data entry. The decent key travel and tactile feedback offers a better and smoother typing experience on this keyboard.

The trackpad is also quite good in responsiveness and is large enough to use it easily. However, the off-center placement of it may cause a few difficulties in typing to people who use their left hand primarily.

However, the durability of this device seems to be a tad less as the chassis is built from plastic.

A CNC aluminum frame would have been more useful and better for users who need to work on it at different outdoor locations or on the go often.

Performance

The performance of the system is pretty good, though a bit higher is expected by those who want to use it for demanding applications and jobs such as web development.

However, there is nothing wrong with the 9th generation Intel Core i5 processor included in the system in itself.

Belonging to the H series of the Intel Core family, this processor can operate at a speed of 2.4 GHz at the base clock and up to 4.1 GHz at the boost clock with the unique Intel Turbo Boost technology.

The graphics card of this device is dedicated and therefore supports both basic as well as high-end computing tasks along with gaming.

It comes from one of the major graphics card manufacturers, Nvidia, and belongs to the GeForce GTX series.

The 4 GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM helps it to produce images of higher quality and better color reproduction at quite a fast rate with no lags or screen tears.

The Windows 10 Home operating system comes with all those useful and easy-to-use features that you are already familiar with.

It will help you in your operation and navigation.

Though a Pro version would have been better for professional computing tasks such as rendering and web development, this pre-installed Windows version is certainly not the one to discard completely.

RAM & Storage

There is 8 GB of DDR4 SDRAM in this unit, which may be enough for basic and everyday computing needs in office, school, or home, thanks to its 2666 MHz bandwidth.

But, more of it would have been better for other complex professional jobs and gaming as that would not have made the system sluggish while opening and using several different browser tabs and apps, a common requirement for professional computing jobs.

The storage of the device, on the other hand, is quite enough at 512 GB, allowing you to save a large number of files, projects, and folders created by you along with a few games, movies and music.

Acer Aspire 7 Laptop Storage

The best part of it is that it is a PCIe NVMe SSD that operates faster to boot up the system and apps quickly and stays cool during operation, even under heavy load.

Ports & Connectivity

It may seem that the device comes with a limited number of ports apparently, but when you consider the types and their features, you will see that you can connect a lot of devices through them and they will serve a lot of different purposes at the same time.

Acer Aspire 7 Ports

The system has one USB 3.2 Type C Gen 1 port that supports data transfer at a speed of up to 5 Gbps and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one of which can be used for power-off charging.

Apart from that, the device also comes with one HDMI port that supports HDCP or High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection.

When it comes to the connectivity options, apart from Bluetooth 4.1 technology, the laptop also supports 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectivity through the RJ 45 port as well as 802.11ac of the IEEE wi-fi networking standard featuring 2×2 MU-MIMO technology or dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Battery Life

It is one area that the manufacturers seem to have compromised to keep both the price as well as the weight within manageable limits.

Though the life of the lithium-ion battery of the laptop which touches about 8 hours on a single charge is fairly high, it would have been more appreciable if it was more.

It would have then helped the professional users to work on it for longer hours in their office or on the go on a single charge.

Additional Features

There are two stereo speakers built in the system that produces fair enough sound output, though it is nothing to be considered as exceptional.

There are two built-in microphones as well that can capture sounds from a distance to help you in video chatting.

The HD webcam integrated at the top border of the screen is at par the average standards of cameras on the laptops today.

The product comes with a warranty from the manufacturer against any hardware defects that you may encounter within one year. It also comes with an international travelers’ warranty.

What Do Users Think about Acer Aspire 7?

Most of the users verified said that this laptop works great for basic and complex computing tasks as well as supports gaming due to its high specifications.

Happy with the overall performance, they however complained about the issues they faced while using Bluetooth down the road.

It, they said, would disappear randomly without giving any clue about the reason or its fix. However, it did come back on its own, sometimes quickly and sometimes not so much.

A few specific users were unhappy about the design and manufacturing defects in the system. Check out Aspire 7 Manual.

They said that this resulted in hardware failures, such as physical disconnection of the Bluetooth connectivity.

It is slow in performance and the screen turns blue often with a faulty hardware error code. They also complained that the Acer tech support was not of much help in this matter.

This is a great laptop, said some regular users. It runs pretty well and fast not only when they do their office computing tasks on it but also while running anything for the school of their kids.

The system also allowed them to play a few demanding games, providing them with high value in return for their investment.

A few users however said that they were a bit annoyed with the fan that is kind of loud while running, though it helps in keeping the system and its hardware pretty cool, which is a sort of a compensation.

Once again, they pointed at the Bluetooth issues, which, they said, is the biggest downside of the system.

Since this is not a rare occurrence, it surely lets them and the device down a bit and should be seriously reconsidered by the manufacturer, they urged.

Apart from a few small flaws in its design, this is a great laptop to purchase, suggested others. It works well and performs flawlessly for their office work.

However, they suggested that people who are looking for gaming and a reliable connectivity, especially the Bluetooth, should look somewhere else.

The backlit keyboard as well as the dedicated 10-key number pad are two specific aspects that attracted those users who use this laptop for office work as well as other high-end computing tasks, such as web development.

The latest processor and the dedicated graphics card included in the system design helped them immensely in their work, increasing their productivity, they said.

Few other users who put the system for professional use said that this is a good laptop but a higher amount of RAM, more battery life, and a set of good quality speakers would have been more helpful in their work.

The response time as well as the color accuracy also needs some improvement, according to them.

Our Testing & Analysis Report

While working on the Acer Aspire 7 using WordPress and other programs, we found that its configuration is quite capable of handling such jobs. We also did not find any sluggishness or slowdowns while working on Photoshop.

We kept a few tabs open while using Chrome and found that it worked almost flawlessly. And while testing the camera we found that it is quite plausible, though nothing extraordinary.

To test how it responded to games, we tested the Aspire by playing games like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Forza Horizon 5, we found that the result was quite satisfactory with the frame rate close to 60 fps in both cases.

The color accuracy and gamut of the display were also nearly perfect when we tested it on the De color accuracy tool. With the brightness level under 300 nits, the value of dE2000 was found to be well within the standard 4.0.
