Read Acer Aspire VX 15 gaming laptop review and see the price. If you are looking for a gaming laptop which is somewhere between very low and very high in performance, then the Acer Aspire VX 15 gaming laptop would certainly be your choice.

It has all those specs that you will find in a good quality gaming laptop such as a latest and high-performing processor, a dedicated graphics card of the latest GTX series from Nvidia, and adequate amount of memory.

However, the SSD storage, which is fast, is a bit low in comparison to the standards of a gaming laptop.

But then, considering the price, there has to be some way or the other in which it should be balanced by the manufacturer.

You can rely on this gaming laptop fully for its high performance-price ratio.

Thanks to its effective cooling system with dual fans, the system will not get exceptionally hot even if you play games on it for long hours or put it under pressure.

The fan noise will also be quite low while gaming and therefore will not distract you from your gameplay.

But for the bloatware, which is quite common and expected, you will have a wonderful gaming experience when you use this laptop.

The best part of this system is that it is not only a good gaming laptop but it is also good for doing other professional computing tasks or using it in college by students.

Whether you are a software developer or a mechanical engineering student, if you are ready to carry the bulk of a relatively larger computer on your back, then this laptop will suffice all your coding work.

It will support running all those complex apps and software programs to study mechanical engineering and creating the best designs of machines as well.

You will be pleased with it as you can play games on it as well in your off hours. Check out Best Laptops for Mechanical Engineering Students.

Therefore, unless you want a device for playing high-end games, for which a desktop seems to be the best choice, this device will suit all your needs.

It will provide the perfect bang for the buck. However, please remember to carry the charger along with you because the battery life of it is just average, if not lower than that.

Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Laptop Review

Acer Aspire VX 15

Buy for: Attractive design, extensive connectivity, dual fan cooling system, fast performance, beautiful and large full-size keyboard.

Beware of: Average battery life, bloatware, screen flicker, low storage.

Best uses for: Gaming, Miami 2: Wrong Number, mechanical engineering students, working from home, Foxhole, Garry’s Mod, Goat Simulator and other purposes.

The Acer Aspire VX 15 is one of the most suitable laptops available on the market for the gamers. Though its build quality could have been much better, the performance of this laptop is far above average. If the battery life was a bit more and the graphics card was a GTX 1060 instead of 1050, then this would have been one of the best gaming laptops as of now.

Design and Build

The design of this laptop looks pretty attractive though the lid does give a feeling that it is kind of cheap.

This should not be a big deal breaker since you will be hardly seeing it when it is opened.

However, if you can do away with that, overall, this device looks fine and beautiful and feels buttery smooth on the surface.

The sleek lines and angles give it a more futuristic look. But, if you want to use a laptop that is super conservative in looks, then this is certainly not the right one for you.

It will surely exceed your expectations when it comes to durability and looks at the same time, much unlikely for a gaming laptop, once again, which are not expected to have great looks.

Therefore, you can expect not to get any weird looks when you pull out this laptop from your bag in the classrooms or during a meeting with your clients.

The 15.6-inch screen is quite large for you to see the images clearly, though the thick bezel makes it look smaller.

The full HD display comes with widescreen IPS technology that will allow you or others beside you to see the images clearly from any side and from any angle.

Though the LED backlit display saves a lot of energy during operation, however, the quality of the screen could have been much better than this because the color accuracy is not superb.

There is no optical drive or a Thunderbolt 3 port in the system design but it is understandable because the manufacturer needed to offer this machine at a striking price point.

The backlit keyboard does not only look fine with its red backlights but also provides a nice typing experience when you use it.

The keys have a decent travel distance, feedback and a nice texture.

However, the arrow keys may cause a bit of an annoyance when you type fast because it is not spaced out adequately from the others as you would see in other regular keyboards.

The trackpad is large enough to allow convenient and comfortable navigation. It is quite responsive and feels much like that of a Mac.

It is built to be sensitive to touches and differently, depending on the number of fingers used. You can move pages up and down by simply using two fingers.

If you want to browse all the active apps, you can use three fingers and if you want to change desktops, you will need to use four fingers.

As for the right and left clicks, you will however need to exert a bit more force to make the buttons work.

However, the best way is to tap softly instead of struggling with the buttons.

This laptop is a perfect blend of aesthetics and performance.

The build quality is great, though it makes the system a bit heavy and large in comparison to a standard laptop, but that is quite a common feature for a gaming laptop.

In fact, weighing just 5.5 pounds, it is quite light for a gaming laptop in particular.

It is the performance of this laptop that makes it shine and stand apart from the others within its class.

You can consider yourself lucky to get a device of this caliber at this price point which is a really powerful machine to handle all types of games and coding jobs most efficiently and smoothly.

The Intel Core i7 7700HQ processor belongs to the 7th generation no doubt, but with its 6 MB cache, 4 cores, and 8 threads it is powerful enough for jobs like editing videos and other professional jobs.

It can deal with any type of data processing as well as games with its processing speed of 2.8 GHz frequency at the base clock and 3.8 GHz with Turbo Boost technology.

You probably could not ask for a better performance from a processor that comes with a high 8 GT/s bus speed and a TDP ranging between 35 W and 45 W.

Since this is sold as a gaming laptop, it should, and does, come with a dedicated graphics card.

This GPU belongs to the GTX 1050 TI series of Nvidia and this configuration of 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM is quite enough to handle most of the modern games most easily and efficiently.

Though a GTX 1060 would have been much better, this graphics chip is nothing to be shunned completely.

You can even play more demanding games like Battlefield 1 on it, albeit in a bit toned-down setting so that you get over 60 FPS.

If you want to play some more GPU intensive games such as Far Cry primal or Witcher 3, you must play them in medium graphics so that you have a really smooth game playing experience.

The Windows 10 operating system is perfect to use in order to stay productive all day.

This improved operating system will provide a better personalized experience with its familiar features.

The apps will be more easily accessible making multitasking easier than ever.

It will interoperate well with the hardware and all software of the system whenever you need them to work.

Work or play, this operating system will ensure that you interact with your devices in the best possible way and use wonderful apps included in it such as Mail, Calendar, Video, Music, Maps and more, and even use OneDrive for a backup of your data.

For gaming, you will get more flexibility as it will sync properly with Xbox Live to stream games and record them in seconds.

RAM & Storage

The laptop is equipped with 16 GB of RAM. This DDR4 SDRAM has a bandwidth of 2400 MHz which allows smoother multitasking with a large number of apps and browser tabs open concurrently.

The SSD of this machine is pretty fast. It takes about five seconds to boot up the operating system and other apps load quickly and perfectly as well.

However, this is only 256 GB, and therefore, will fill up pretty quickly if you download a lot of movies and media and install a couple of games on your system.

Ports & Connectivity

You are offered with extensive and strong connectivity options by this laptop. Check out Best Laptops for Working from Home.

It includes one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C port that transfers data at a speed of up to 5 Gbps, two USB 3.0 ports of which one can be used for power-off charging, one USB 2.0 port, and one HDMI port, apart from a combo audio jack.

It also includes a Secure Digital card reader that allows storing and data transfer at a fast speed.

The connectivity ability of the system is further enhanced by the 802.11ac wi-fi networking support provided by it that features 2×2 MU-MIMO technology or dual band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 technology for connecting other Bluetooth enabled devices.

In addition to that, if you are comfortable with a wired network, you will get a RJ 45 port that supports 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN.

Battery Life

The battery life of this laptop is just average and acceptable, and this is one area that seriously needs some improvements.

It will surely not last for the entire day to let you complete all your jobs or play a full game on a single charge.

Therefore, if you are using it in college, outdoors, or in a public place, make sure that there is a free charging outlet near you.

The manufacturer claims that the 3-cell lithium-ion battery of this system that comes with a capacity of 4605 mAh will last for about 6 hours on average, but the real picture may be completely different, and stunning if you are unaware of it.

If you use it for doing mundane tasks such as watching some videos or web browsing, the battery will last for more or less 4 hours before needing a recharge.

On the other hand, if you do some more demanding jobs on it, the battery may last for about 3 hours, give or take.

Most importantly, while playing games, which is what this laptop is designed for and marketed as, the battery life of this unit seems to be pathetic, lasting for about a bit more than one hour.

Additional Features

There is an efficient thermal management system installed in this device that will blow the hot air from the back of the chassis providing a better air circulation inside it to keep the innards cool, thanks to its dual fans.

It is due to its efficient heat dissipation that neither the keyboard nor the system gets hot while gaming.

The HD webcam built in the system can take pictures at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels but the best part is that it supports HDR or High Dynamic Range.

The two digital microphones incorporated in the system design also ensures that the conversation is heard loud and clear to the person at the other end during a video call.

As for the audio, the device comes with two stereo speakers built in it which supports Acer True Harmony Technology.

This produces good quality sound that is high in volume and rich in tone and clarity with deeper bass.

The Dolby Audio Premium feature also adds to the sound clarity.

The manufacturer also offers a limited warranty on hardware defects of this unit for a period of one year from the date of purchase of the new product.

What Do Users Think about Acer Aspire VX 15?

Even after using the laptop for a long time now by a few users, they still did not have much to complain about the performance and operation of it.

It offers a good price and performance ratio. The performance of this device can be enhanced even more with a small overclock to the graphics card.

The specs allow this machine to run all types of games without much of a problem, which is what this laptop is designed for, they felt.

This is one of the best laptops to play games, work in office or in school, or simply watch a movie, felt by some specific users.

The ultra 1080p screen provides the best viewing experience and the audio is quite good to provide the best gaming and multimedia experience.

The system even offers a space to add another HDD or SSD, which is a good option, but limited to the US residents only.

Apart from the average battery life, this system has not given them much of a problem of any kind during its operation.

It works perfectly, asserted a few customers. Check out Aspire VX 15 Manual.

They also said that, if one considers the performance it offers and all the power it provides, this will prove to be one of the most economical gaming laptops that is available on the market today.

However, the little storage space offered by it is just a little bit of an annoying detail, though it does boot up the games and the operating system pretty fast.

They can run any type of game of medium-high graphics at 60 fps without any issues whatsoever.

It is good in the gaming aspect, but the battery does not last long, said some users. Sometimes the battery life gets really annoying, they said.

As an example, they said that a session of PUBG, that usually takes much less than an hour, could not be completed even if they started playing with 100% charge.

The system will ask to connect it to the mains in the middle of the game, which, for them, seems to be extremely frustrating.

They said that the battery life is quite good for watching movies on it but is certainly not good for gaming or even for working on any software and graphics intensive jobs.

Some of the users said that they would recommend this laptop to others but with a few simple words of caution.

They said that this device surely provides them with a higher user experience and value for their money and has all the power needed to run everything that is thrown at it most smoothly and very efficiently.

It also looks quite fantastic with its black and red color combination.

The only thing that they regretted is the failing display after using it for some time as it would flicker at times when it is tilted in any way.

This is the best laptop for people who are looking for a mid-high gaming laptop, said a few users. It is good in performance as well as in cooling due to the dual fans.

This is also very durable and will therefore last for a long time.

This is an absolutely great choice due to the positives that this laptop comes with such as a beautiful monitor that delivers sharp and clear image with quite good color, it boots up and shuts down pretty fast, it runs all games smoothly on medium high settings and 60 fps, and the device or the laptop does not get hot while playing games.

Other Expert Views

The specs of this laptop are good, says CNET. This machine offers quite an impressive gaming performance. The high-performing hardware will not let down any user, be it a gamer, a professional content developer, a student, or just an average consumer.

Trusted Reviews too considers this to be a solid gaming laptop, though they feel that it is let down a bit due to the poor quality of its screen. Also, they feel that 256 GB of storage, SSD or whatever, is too low for a gaming laptop.

Laptop Mag considers this laptop as a well configured and well performing device for the money. With good port selection, though there is no Thunderbolt 3, and strong connectivity it will not let a user feel to have been let down.
