Best Desktops for Bloggers

Since blogging is not as simple as only editing a document and posting it online, we decided to make something that could help both freelancing and professional bloggers. This list is dedicated to the best desktops an average blogger needs for his work.

TOP PICKS:

Minimum and Recommended System Requirements for Blogging

Bloggers don’t need a very high-end device to do their regular tasks like content writing, content editing, photo editing, etc.

For a creative blogger, a desktop that has an Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB RAM with an SSD is more than sufficient.

But a professional blogger always prefers a high-end processor like Intel Core i7 or better and at least 16GB RAM to experience lightning-first processing while doing their regular tasks.

Minimum System Requirements: Intel Core i3-7100U | 4GB RAM | Intel HD Graphic 620 | 32GB SSD.

Recommended System Requirements: Intel Core i7-11700F or better processor | 16GB RAM or more | GeForce RTX 3060 AERO ITX or better GPU | 512GB SSD or more storage.

5 Best Desktops for Bloggers:

1. MSI Trident 3 Gaming Desktop – Overall Best

MSI Trident 3 Gaming Desktop

Bottom Line: This desktop is the overall best option for bloggers. It has very powerful configurations which help it to deliver very fast processing with any day-to-day workload.

Key Features:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-11700F
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 3060 AERO ITX
  • OS: Windows 10 Home
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Storage: 512GB SSD

Pros

  • Inbuilt WiFi 6E support
  • Great performance
  • Attractive outfit

Cons

The MSI Trident i7-11700F is a powerful VR ready desktop. It features an 11th generation Intel Core i7-11700F processor and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

These powerful components make this device an excellent option for bloggers who need a fast and reliable system for editing or publishing their content.

Having the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, the bloggers can also smoothly edit videos on this PC when needed.

It has a 512GB NVMe SSD. So the users can experience fast booting time and great data transferring speed.

Overall, this is a great choice for bloggers who need a powerful, and VR ready desktop.

2. Apple iMac – Runner Up

Apple iMac

Bottom Line: An Apple iMac can be exactly what you’re looking for if you need an efficient desktop for blogging, that also looks sophisticated and is compact. This is capable of a lot more than just word processing, so all kinds of bloggers can look up to it.

Key Features:

  • Processor: 8th gen Intel Core i5
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon 560X
  • OS: Mac OS
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 256 GB

Pros

  • Excellent Performance
  • Good Connectivity features
  • Reliable

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Small Storage space
  • Limited upgradability

When it comes to creative tasks, nothing can beat an Apple desktop, and hence we had no other choice but to include one here as well.

The one we have here is an iMac with a 21.5-inch screen that is the best AIO on this list, although quite expensive.

You get a Hexa-core Intel Core i5 CPU that runs at 3.0 GHz with AMD’s Radeon Pro 560X (4 GB) graphics. For smooth multitasking, there is also 8 GB of RAM.

Everything you view on the screen is going to be vivid as it is a 4K display, though the wide bezels are distracting.

With multiple ports and two Thunderbolt 3 ones among them, transferring data is never going to be an issue. You may as well add more displays and the iMac would still be able to function as effortlessly.

This is an auspicious device for editors and bloggers, and you would start to realize the benefits of working with the Mac OS as soon as you boot it up.

The only area where it is limited is regarding storage, and although fast, only 256 GB of space would be available to you.

But here are other options, along with a 27” variant that provides you with a different CPU, GPU, and storage combination.

Also, there is a Core i3 version as well if you require a lower-tier CPU.

3. Acer Aspire C27-962-UA91 AIO – Extremely Stylish

Acer Aspire C27-962-UA91

Bottom Line: If light graphics processing and overall satisfying multitasking performance are what you’re looking for in a desktop for blogging and related purposes, then we would suggest that you consider this AIO from Acer.

Key Features:

  • Processor: 10th gen Intel Core i5-1035G1
  • Graphics: NVIDIA MX 130
  • OS: Windows 10 Home
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD

Pros

  • Decent entry-level performance
  • Dual-storage option
  • Good multi-tasking performance

Cons

  • No 4K support
  • Base-level GPU
  • Less upgradability

We have given a special focus on the All-in-Ones here since they are better than desktops for the purpose at hand.

The one from Acer is an extremely stylish 27” device that you can use for blogging. You thus also get the monitor and other decent peripherals along with the PC, and might just save some money.

The variant we have here has got a 10th gen Core i5 CPU with a max speed of 3.6 GHz, along with 12 GB of RAM. The GPU is again an entry-level one, and editing on 4K isn’t an option.

The MX 130 GPU has got 2 GB of VRAM, and thus most of your graphics work can be handled well. The FHD display has got very thin bezels, and there is also a private webcam at the top.

Along with this, you have a 512 GB SSD for fast storage and a few ports for connectivity. The wireless mouse and keyboard you get in the Acer Aspire C27-962-UA91 allow you to use these ports for other purposes.

But like any other typical AIO, upgrading it is a problem and unless you are satisfied with the same specs throughout, this is not the wise choice.

4. Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 AIO – Performs as Good as It Looks

Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 AIO

Bottom Line: An even more affordable alternative to any other desktop on the list without compromising looks or performance is the IdeaCentre AIO 3. With a Ryzen processor and quick SSD being the major highlights, this can be the right tool for your blogging aspirations.

Key Features:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 4300U
  • Graphics: Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics
  • OS: Windows 10
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 256 GB

Pros

  • Affordable Price tag
  • Attractive Display and design
  • Decent Performance

Cons

  • Little Upgradability
  • Average Graphics
  • Small storage space initially

Now we have another All-in-One alternative from Lenovo that too is a decent entry-level performer, but is much cheaper when compared to the ones from Acer or Apple.

The IdeaCentre AIO 3 has the latest Ryzen 3 4300U processor, which is one of the Renoir processors launched very recently for mobile devices.

Now this AIO isn’t very portable, but since we are only talking about desktops here, it is worth a mention.

The device has a very slim display, with even slimmer bezels so you get a large viewing area. This is a big enough 24” display that is sitting on a stand.

The screen angle can also be tilted slightly, should you need it. Also, with an HDMI port, you may as well another display to maximize your productivity.

With the Ryzen 3 CPU comes integrated graphics and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. You won’t be able to put on much graphical workload on it, but other than that, it is a decent enough configuration.

The RAM should be enough to handle many processes at the same time, so you have a smoothly running system even when multi-tasking.

There are several ports for connecting other devices. But the major concern about the device is the storage space.

The internal 256 GB NVMe SSD is not little and can store thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos. But it would become insufficient within a few months or so.

However, there is some extra space to add another SSD that should solve the problem for any blogger.

5. Asus Chromebox 3 N018U – Best Value for Money

Asus Chromebox 3 N018U

Bottom Line: The ASUS Chromebox may not look much in front of the other towers or AIOs on the list, but it is plenty useful and a solid option if you’re planning to start blogging.

Key Features:

  • Processor: Intel Core i3-7100U
  • Graphics: Intel Integrated Graphics 620
  • OS: Google Chrome OS
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 32 GB

Pros

  • Small and portable
  • Affordable Price tag
  • Virus-free usage

Cons

  • Limited usability
  • Small storage space
  • Higher variants aren’t worth it

The development of the Chrome OS has been so steady that today you can use one of these for various purposes, and creating posts or articles is surely one of those.

Now there would be some restrictions that you would face, like using the android version of MS Word while typing. But other than that, every application that has an online function would be very comfortable to work with.

We have deliberately placed the Core i3 version here so that heavy users do not face any difficulty.

However, there is a Celeron variant that is about $200 cheap and is great for light blogging purposes. Whereas, a better Core i7 version present, but we don’t think that would be much worth it.

There is 4 GB of RAM, and you would be amazed at how the 7th gen CPU lets you do so many things at once even with a smaller memory.

There are an HDMI and a USB Type-C port for adding two monitors, and the latter also supports older VGA and DisplayPort interfaces.

But even with so much to look up to, the Asus Chromebox 3 has a major limitation regarding storage space.

The 32 GB of space present in it makes it highly unlikely for you to store anything more than a few photos and videos.

There is a restriction on editing software already, and hence it only serves as something you could use when you have just begun blogging.

Over the years, an upgrade to a better PC would be necessary.

How to Choose Best Desktop for a Blogger?

Best Desktops for Bloggers

A blogger’s immediate need is a fast processing computer that can open up multiple tabs on Chrome or some other browser as quickly as possible.

Also, there has to be enough reliability so that the PC can handle these open tabs, along with word processing, and even some photo or video editing software at the same time.

You can be blogging about anything, creating articles related to food items, technology, travel, and even run a page that stores a bit of everything.

Depending on this, you will need to have accessories accordingly, like a camera, a good monitor, and so on. But all of this would be worthwhile only if your PC is a decent one.

One of the main things that you must keep in mind is that the computer you buy should be useful for a few years to come. This doesn’t mean that you have to buy a high-end PC initially, but make sure to have scope for upgrades.

You may have only journals and articles on your page mainly but might need to add designs or other graphics in the future. So this is important to make sure that the PC supports both.

No matter what you blog, this buyer’s guide is targeted to meet the requirements of most of you. All of the aspects that need to be taken care of have been mentioned here.

We aren’t recommending any software here, but we can provide you a little insight into which OS should be good for you.

Form Factor

When choosing a desktop, there are certain things that you miss that are available on a laptop.

This includes portability mainly, and the comparative ease of working since there are convertible laptops too that make things much easier when blogging.

But this problem can be solved partially if you opt for an AIO, and if you have some money to spare, a touch screen one.

The peripherals that come with these are usually satisfactory, and some allow the addition of more displays.

The upgradability of an AIO is also a big question, but bloggers with decent specs in their PCs generally don’t require major upgrades anyway.

Yet others choose SFF or mini desktops, like the Asus Chromebox 3 for obvious reasons. But these too are mostly limited in terms of expansions and upgrades. Hence, tower desktops are mostly preferred.

Read more and you will find out all that you need to know before choosing the right desktop that would let you start your new blog or help grow the older one.

Budget

The best thing about blogging is that one doesn’t need to have a $1000 setup to start it. Any decent PC with the most entry-level specs can handle most of the software that you will have to use.

Unless you are going for an iMac, you can keep a budget of $500, and the specs you get would be enough for you to at least start working.

With graphics involved, you may keep some extra money for a lightweight GPU or buy it initially, whichever is more convenient.

So the latter case requires a budget of $700+, and in this segment, you would get plenty of options as well.

So this is one of those professions that wouldn’t worry you much about the budget. You may buy an AIO that comes with a monitor and other peripherals.

Or you can buy some better peripherals that usually aren’t very expensive. As you read more, several other things would be made clear.

OS

Before you go deeper into other hardware specifications, the choice of the OS is one of the primary choices that you’ll have to make.

With Linux out of the question, you have three options. The first is Windows, the second Chrome, and the third Mac.

The Chrome OS is a light and cheap operating system but imposes limitations both on hardware and software.

While blogging using it solely, there will be many scenarios where you’d feel the absence of some features and might have to use another PC ultimately.

So for a beginner, it is a good choice but as you rank up, you would require a primary Windows or Mac PC to make up for the things it cannot do.

The expensive but feature-rich Mac OS needs no separate introduction and the hardware that it comes with is generally reliable.

Features like a smooth OS and Thunderbolt support are some of the things Mac desktops are known for.

These are undoubtedly the best for editing and designing purposes, while you get all the benefits of an AIO. However, the price range at which these devices come creates trouble for the budget-buyers.

We aren’t commenting much about Windows since it is the most preferred, flexible, and affordable operating system there is, at least currently.

Even the Pro version wouldn’t cost you much, and all sorts of software related to blogging can be easily installed and run on a PC running on Windows OS.

Processor

For writing on a blog, one doesn’t require a Hexa or octa-core processor, unless there is also other stuff he wants to do with his PC. For simple word processing and graphics, any quad-core Intel or an AMD alternative would be sufficient.

Most bloggers design their blogs themselves, and some design the graphics present in them too. A Core i5 (Core i7 if intensive tasks are to be done) or similar Ryzen 5 CPU would be ideal for anybody in this profession, even if they have to deal with a lot of video processing.

Now those who are solely writers, and have other people to design graphics (or edit their pictures and videos) can also save some money and buy a Core i3 or a Ryzen 3 desktop instead. We wouldn’t recommend going below that unless it is a Chromebook.

You must have noticed that there is also a Chromebox among the 5 desktops we have mentioned. So yes, you might as well use the Chrome OS for blogging.

While we have already talked about operating systems, we can suggest that unless there’s graphics involved, a Pentium and Celeron CPU can also handle word processing.

But they are restricted to that only, and the moment you open some more software or try to multi-task, they would yield.

GPU

Regarding graphics, it majorly depends on what sort of blogging you do. If you post more pictures or graphics, then there is a good chance that they need to be edited at first.

So for photo and light video editing, a base-level GPU would do and you don’t have to go beyond a GTX 1050 Ti video card (RX 560 for AMD lovers).

The same is the case for vlogs (video blogs), but to edit those you need some more power. But the choice of the GPU here depends on the quality of the videos you post.

The GPU that can handle 720p videos wouldn’t be that great with 1080p ones, and 4K is simply out of the question. This, in turn, depends on the other accessories you have, like your cameras which you use to shoot these videos.

A GTX 1660 Ti, for those looking for a GPU to handle mid to high kinds of video editing, would be plenty for both 1080p and 4K videos.

But for anything below the standard photo and video editing, you wouldn’t even need a dedicated graphics card at all.

This is the case when you are using MS Office for your blogs and other such software that rely more on CPU performance.

The integrated graphics present in your PC may not have the capability to run games or process complex graphics, but they are still useful here.

RAM

Next, comes the RAM which is of great importance, even if you’re a blogger who has text articles to post. The multi-tasking ability of your PC is heavily dependent upon the spare RAM available in the system.

To make sure there is enough smoothness in the PC and that it can handle lots of tasks at the same time, you need to have more RAM. Our suggestion here would be 8 GB.

But that is surely not the case when editing is involved, especially video processing. Things are budget-friendly even up to 1080p, but beyond that, you’ll need to have higher specs.

So while 8 GB is the minimum, depending upon your needs and the kind of blogs that you post, even 16 GB of memory might be required.

Low-tier systems may not have quad-channel memory support, but that shouldn’t be a problem as you still get dual-channel.

There isn’t much performance difference in RAM frequencies, so don’t make the mistake of investing more for a faster RAM module, rather than one with a bigger capacity.

Storage

Next is storage, and this is something that you must keep excess from the very beginning. While researching topics for your blogs, you might have to save a lot of extra files.

Only a few of these would be used in a single presentation, but they have to be kept for future reference as well.

If you are into video blogging, then the amount of storage required is even more since videos of 1080p resolution can take up a lot of space.

Not only that, but you also need to have space for storing the edited ones, alongside the raw files.

Moreover, the videos you capture while going on a memorable trip, or movies, for example, would be stored in your PC itself and small storage space wouldn’t be enough.

If you are extremely tight on budget, then there isn’t an option for a bigger SSD. But you will need to buy one very soon, as hard drives are slowly being replaced by these much better storage drives.

You would also have to consider using cloud-based storage and external drives since clogging your PC with unnecessary files could create a problem.

Connectivity

For a desktop that you use for blogging, there have to be provisions for different connections so that file transferring is convenient.

Hence, you must have several USB ports, and USB Type-C ones if possible. Type-C ports are used in various devices nowadays because of the fast speed they offer, so these are very important for you as well.

Also, try to go for a device that has got a Thunderbolt port support since those can serve multiple purposes. You can use one for connecting external drives, monitors, and so on. For a blogger, these are of utmost importance.

The necessary WIFI and Bluetooth specs are also necessary, and so are video ports. Video and travel bloggers often tend to have dual-monitor setups, and also need ports to connect cameras, speakers, and so on.

Accessories

Although this isn’t something that you should be looking for directly in your PC’s hardware, it is very much related to the topic here.

Every successful blogger has visions and ideas of his own that he wants to share with his audience. This is possible because he has all the right resources including a PC and the related accessories.

Text plays a huge role, no matter the kind of blogger you are, so the first things needed are a comfortable keyboard and a mouse.

While the keyboard needs to have the right key-travel and soft palm rest, the scrolling on the mouse also needs to be smooth.

One cannot spend hours typing and scrolling if these two aren’t good enough. The right mouse size would depend on how big or small your palm is, and thus it usually differs from person to person.

Needed with these is a good monitor, and one with a usual 60 Hz refresh rate is plenty. The display quality (FHD, QHD, 4K, etc) matters more when you are designing graphics or editing videos, and that is somewhat your personal preference.

Questions & Answers:

How much RAM do you need for blogging?

Surely, not every blogger would agree on a fixed amount of RAM or system memory needed to create blog posts. But what they do agree on is that anything close to or above 8 GB is good enough.

So, if your blogs do not consist of many photos or videos, then 4-8 GB of RAM is great. Though if these are present, you would need more than 8 GB for the system to run comfortably.

Is a laptop better than a desktop for blogging?

A laptop does have some advantages over a desktop when blogging is in question, mainly because of how portable these are. Although, they lack in upgradability and affordability, things in which desktops are better at. Thus, it all depends on what your personal preferences are.

Is the Chrome OS good for blogging?

The Google Chrome environment has got a lot of tools that make it easier for a blogger to create, edit and post his/her blogs online for the world to see. But this comfort is limited, and though word processing is not an issue, the Chrome OS is limited in terms of graphics and video processing applications, which can be a problem for some.

Finishing up

As a blogger, you must be consistent and patient since it is one of those careers that take time to build up. As you gain more experience, you would be able to create better content and hence attract more audiences.

This is one of those professions that allow you to express creativity and that is possible only with a PC that supports you when doing so. Make sure to share this article with others as well if it could be of any help to you.
