What is Command Prompt?
The Command Prompt refers to the text-based interface through which the users can give instructions to the computer system about the specific task to be performed.
In technical terms, this specific, native application in Windows functions as the CLI or Command Line Interpreter and as a user interface as well. It is a conduit for communication between the user and the system used.

Available on most computers today with the Windows operating system, the Command Prompt is essentially an executable CLI program and is therefore referred to as cmd.exe sometimes, which is its file name.

What is Command Prompt Used for?
The Command Prompt is very useful, especially for those users who want to use more-than-the-basic Windows Settings and features of the Control Panel such as Hardware and Sound, Programs, User Accounts, and others.
In simple words, Command Prompt helps the users gain access to and control over each and every aspect of the features and network related to the operating system.
