Introduction

There are very few things that this computing system has that can be compared to any high-end laptops.

In fact, there may not be anything that can be considered as truly remarkable and which can outshine others. However, the system is highly reliable even with its limited features.

When you use it, you will see that the system does not make any serious blunder, or use too much power and memory while operating, or get warm beyond your expectation.

Everything is perfectly balanced, right from its design, its build and use of hardware components, to make this system highly reliable.

The processor and the storage both are reliable and fast. The wi-fi module is good enough to provide a stable and more reliable connectivity.

Most importantly, most of the components in this system are upgradable, though accessing them could be an issue.

The alternatives:

Design and Build

Though not very creative or extremely stylish, the design of this system will surely grab your attention.

The 15.6-inch HD screen that displays images at 1366 x 768 pixels comes with an anti-glare feature in the design, which is a good bargain considering the price of the laptop.

Moreover, this non-touch screen also comes with LED backlit feature that also adds to the clarity and sharpness of the images.

The lid of the laptop is quite easy to open due to the flexible hinges. Check out best laptop brands.

It is due to its supple design that you will not feel too much of a bend on it when you apply the torsion pressure.

The build of the keyboard is another important aspect of this laptop.

HP ProBook 450 G6 Laptop Keyboard

Resembling most of the keyboards of the HP ProBook 450 series, the keyboard of this device is good enough and there is a click-like feedback.

There is a touchpad a little off-center below the keyboard. This is of average size and is very responsive and accurate at the same time.

The speakers are above the keyboard, just as HP has continued to do so for the past few years.

HP ProBook 450 G6 Laptop speaker panel

This prevents the speakers from being covered when you use the system on your lap or in your bed.

The metal case of this system is comparatively thin, but nothing to the extent to make it ultra-thin.

It is the high-quality build of this silver color device that has enabled HP to keep its weight to 4.41 pounds only.

Performance

The different hardware components of the system help it to perform the basic computing functions effectively, within its limitations.

The 8th generation Intel Quad Core i5-8265U processor comes with 4 cores and 8 threads and operates at 1.60 GHz.

This helps in faster processing of data and instructions. Of course, you can use the Intel Turbo Boost technology to enhance the speed up to 3.90 GHz.

This along with the 6 MB Smart Cache will raise the level of performance even higher and make it far better.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 will ensure images are produced at a faster rate and in good quality.

The graphics card also has the ability to provide maximum support for 4K resolution at 60 Hz.

The operating system, Windows 10 Professional 64, will, as usual, enable easy operation.

The features and functionality of this specific operating system hardly need any specific mention.

RAM & Storage

Though a 16 GB RAM is more preferred now, the 4 GB DDR4 memory of this system will prove to be good enough to do some basic computing jobs on it, along with some simple gameplay, operating at 2400 MHz speed.

However, there are two 260-pin SODIMM RAM slots that will allow you to upgrade the memory up to 16 GB, maximum. This will actually boost its performance.

As for the storage of the system, since this is designed for small computing jobs, the 500 GB SATA hard drive is enough.

Running at a speed of 7200 rpm, it is capable enough to support such jobs with ease and in quick time.

With all other factors remaining the same, the 45 watt-hour, 3 cell Lithium ion battery will run for about 8 hours while web surfing.

Our Testing & Analysis Report

When we reviewed the HP ProBook 450 G6 laptop, we were not much impressed with its build quality, to start with.

Though most of its case is metal, unlike the G5 which is mostly plastic, the G6 is still not very rigid. We found that the case seems to bend and creak to pressure and the hinge is not as smooth as it should be.

Then, we tested its ports and connectivity and used JPG copy test and AS SSD sequential read test and found that it is not very impressive.

In fact, the copy and read test lagged far behind Dell Latitude 5590 or TravelMate P2510, both of which clocked nearly 80 Mbps. Its file transfer speed is also not that fast.

When we typed a few documents on the system, we found that the keys are quite pleasant and comfortable to type, in spite of their medium stroke. The pressure points are crisp. The trackpad is fairly large, smooth, and easy to use.

The display of the laptop fared reasonably well when we put it to the DE 2000 color accuracy and deviation test. It has a fairly good response time and steady viewing angle and sufficient color space coverage.

As for the CPU and the integrated graphics, our technical team used Cinebench R15 Multi 64-bit benchmark for half an hour and concluded that it can sustain load pretty well but there is a slight drop in its performance under heavy load for a long time.

The results were nothing exceptionally different when we conducted PCMark 10 tests.

Overall, we found that the laptop did not crash or fail frequently when we used it for very basic tasks or run some low internet-based apps.
