Though it does not come with a fingerprint scanner, which would have been a nice inclusion for additional security, the Windows is most secure by itself that makes this device reliable enough to use in schools and at work.

It provides additional protection against malware and phishing as well.

Everything is made easy and fast with the good enough specs of this mall machine. It features a small yet good display with anti-glare property that allows easy sharing of the screen and viewing the images clearly from multiple angles.

Design and Build

The slim and compact design of this system will help you to lead your life just the way you want on the go, or make the best use of it to learn more in your school or at home.

The smooth finish, its simple pattern, lightweight and slim design, all will perfectly fit to your needs and personality.

It includes the best components that can possibly come at this price allowing you stay productive all day.

The inclusion of an Intel Celeron processor, a long-lasting battery, fast wi-fi, a lot of ports and extensive connectivity, all are welcome and well appreciated.

It comes with a large enough keyboard, though with no backlights or a discrete numeric pad, which is good to type on with its good key travel and tactile feedback.

HP Stream 11-AK0020NR Laptop Keyboard and Trackpad

It is designed for the future to meet your computing needs and multi-tasking for school or office work seamlessly, as well as gaming and entertainment needs for the afterhours.

The small screen displays images at HD resolution and at 60 Hz refresh rate.

HP Stream 11-AK0020NR Laptop Display

The anti-glare property ensures that these images are soft and do not strain the delicate and developing optic nerves of your kid while staring at the screen for long hours at a stretch.

It maintains the vivid colors of the images and videos and the WLED-backlit feature saves energy at the same time.

However, unfortunately, the bezel around the screen is quite huge, offering just 73% screen to body ratio.

As for the overall design of this light and petite laptop, the diamond white theme looks very appealing, especially to the kids.

The fairly strong and solid chassis holds all the components but does not let the weight cross over 2.37 pounds.

Measuring less than 7 inches, this system is built for ultra-portability and performance and certainly not for convincing looks.

Performance

This is an ideal system for kids for homeschooling and children going to school.

More so, its performance is good enough to support even the adults in their work. However, you should not expect it not to lag when you use it for intensive tasks or graphics intensive gaming.

Supporting the basic computing tasks is a fairly powerful Intel Celeron N4000 processor that comes with two cores.

The operating speed of this processor is neither exceptional nor extremely bad as it clocks 1.1 GHz at the base frequency and up to 2.6 GHz at burst frequency.

It is just enough to provide the desired support to the eMMC storage and DDR3 SDRAM and to get the most out of the battery life.

The integrated graphics card is good enough to perform at a high level with its limitations.

Though it will not be enough to support high-end gaming, it will surely suffice your basic computing needs and web browsing, delivering images with better color reproduction in quick time.

The Windows 10 home operating system is good enough an inclusion as it helps in easy navigation with its useful features.

It also ensures safety and security of your projects and files providing you with the ultimate peace of mind with its most secure features built with Office, Bing Search, Microsoft Edge, Windows Defender and others.

With a free inclusion of Office 365 for a year, it allows full access to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and OneNote.

Another advantage of working with this operating system with the secure mode activated is that it will extend the battery life of your laptop.

Apart from that, it will also provide consistent performance and boot up faster due to less clutter in it.

However, you can disable Windows S Mode by going to the settings which will let you install and use third-party apps such as Google Chrome.

But remember that this is a one-way and one-time process and there is no going back to S mode once you switch out of it.

RAM & Storage

The memory of the unit, though very low at 4 GB, supports basic multitasking.

This means that this DDR3L SDRAM, which is not upgradable, will not function as well as it would with a couple of tabs open at the same time if you open and use twenty tabs concurrently.

It is because it comes with only 1600 MHz bandwidth.

The 32 GB eMMC storage is also very low as per today’s standard but, given the price point and other specs, it is good enough to store quite a large number of files and projects.

In addition to that, you also get 1 TB of OneDrive Storage for one year for free.

The system design will also allow you to insert an SD or Micro SD card if you wish to add to the storage of the device for saving more movies, music, photos, or any other content that are stored on any other card.

Ports & Connectivity

The extensive connectivity options of the system will allow you to stay connected all day as well as connect different external devices and accessories.

HP Stream 11-AK0020NR Laptop Ports

The ports, though limited in number, will serve multiple purposes. You will get two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, another USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C port, an audio jack, and a media card reader slot.

The latest 2×2 wi-fi 5 wireless network with an 802.11ac WLAN adapter will ensure rock solid and consistent connection.

Add to that, the Bluetooth 5.0 support will enable you to stay more productive and transform the system easily from your homeschooling workhorse to a device to stream your favorite shows.

You can even pair it with a MU-MIMO router if you want a better and smoother online experience while using the multi-devices at home.

Battery Life

The battery life is something that is exceptional in this device. It is actually good enough battery life for a device designed for the students and for basic computing tasks in office or on the go.

The life of the lithium polymer battery is quite liberating and lasts for about 12 hours, under test conditions.

Though it may vary depending on the type of usage, you will however get anywhere up to 10 hours of power supply on mixed usage.

It is enough power for the system to work all day without worrying about finding a free plug point for recharging.

Additional Features

The device comes with a good enough audio system that consists of dual speakers. It comes with HP custom tunes setup to provide a sound output of brilliant stereo quality.

HP Stream 11-AK0020NR Laptop Speaker

There is also an excellent webcam integrated in the system design.

HP Stream 11-AK0020NR Laptop Webcam

This front-facing VGA webcam is good enough to take high quality and clear pictures and help you in video chatting to get your work done or simply to stay in touch with your friends over a video call.

The integrated digital microphone in this webcam will also ensure that you have a clear and distinct conversation.

Our Testing & Analysis Report

We ran a couple of YouTube videos and kept a few tabs open in Microsoft Edge to test how exactly the HP Stream 11 AK0020NR responds.

We found that in spite of being equipped with an integrated graphics and Intel Celeron processor, it was quite good at delivering a steady performance.

On the other hand, when we worked on some other productivity suites such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, the system did not lag too much.

We compared its CPU Cinebench benchmark value with other laptops with similar specs and range from Asus and Acer, we found that it was at par with them.

Our technical experts also tested its GPU on G3D and G2D marks. In both cases, the GPU integrated into this laptop fared reasonably well scoring 327 and 97 respectively.

We however found the display of the system to be a bit washed out and dim.

However, both the CPU and the GPU of this system slowed down significantly when we ran some more intensive programs to test its sustainability.

While running the battery test, we charged it fully and then continued surfing the internet and playing some music and videos, with some basic computing tasks done now and then.

We found that the battery life of this laptop is pretty good compared with some expensive models, lasting more than 10 hours on a single charge.
