HP EliteDesk 800 G6 packs impressive performance into an ultra-compact chassis. Its 10th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD enable smooth multitasking and fast boot times. The generous selection of ports keeps you connected. However, the lack of a dedicated GPU limits its usefulness for gaming and GPU-accelerated tasks. The small size also restricts future expandability. But for a powerful, space-saving productivity machine, the EliteDesk 800 G6 is a top contender.

Design & Build

Design & Build image of Design & Build

Measuring just 6.9 x 7 x 1.3 inches, the matte black HP EliteDesk 800 G6 has an incredibly small footprint. Its sleek, minimalist aesthetic fits in anywhere from a cramped cubicle to a home office. The compact metal chassis feels durable and well-constructed. Thoughtfully placed ports on the front and back keep cables tidy. Airflow vents around the sides aid in cooling. However, the tightly packed internals make upgrades tricky for non-experts.

    • Color: Black
    • Form Factor: Ultra-small form factor desktop
    • Dimensions: 6.9 x 7 x 1.3 inches (175 x 177 x 34 mm)
    • Weight: 5.59 lbs (2.54 kg)

Processor image of Processor

Powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700T, the EliteDesk 800 G6 delivers snappy performance for demanding workloads. The 8-core, 16-thread CPU has a 2.0 GHz base clock that turbos up to 4.4 GHz when needed. It breezes through office multitasking, content creation, and even some light video editing. The efficient 10nm process helps balance performance and power use in the compact chassis. However, sustained heavy loads may cause thermal throttling.

    • Processor Model: Intel Core i7-10700T
    • Base Clock Speed: 2.0 GHz
    • Turbo Boost: Up to 4.4 GHz
    • Processing Units: 8 cores, 16 threads

Graphics image of Graphics

The EliteDesk 800 G6 relies on integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630. It capably handles everyday computing, HD video playback, and connecting multiple displays. Light gaming at lower settings is possible. But the lack of a discrete GPU makes it unsuitable for serious gaming or GPU-accelerated workloads like 3D rendering and AI/ML. For basic office productivity and multimedia consumption, the UHD 630 graphics suffice.

    • GPU Model: Intel UHD Graphics 630
    • Performance Level: Entry-level integrated graphics
    • Suitable Uses: Office productivity, HD video, casual games

Storage image of Storage

Equipped with a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, the EliteDesk 800 G6 delivers speedy storage performance. Apps launch quickly, large files open promptly, and the system boots in seconds. The roomy capacity has ample space for documents, media, and software. However, power users and content creators may need additional storage. The compact chassis has no space for adding a 2.5" drive, so external solutions are the only option for expansion.

    • Storage Type: PCIe NVMe SSD
    • Capacity: 512 GB
    • Expandability: No internal bays for additional drives

Memory image of Memory

The EliteDesk 800 G6 comes with a generous 16GB of DDR4 RAM. This enables smooth multitasking across many browser tabs and applications. It can handle memory-intensive workloads like batch photo editing and large spreadsheets. The RAM operates at 2933 MHz for optimal performance. Four DIMM slots allow for future upgrades, with a max supported capacity of 64GB. This gives the EliteDesk 800 G6 ample memory headroom for even the most demanding users.

    • RAM Size: 16 GB
    • Type: DDR4
    • Speed: 2933 MHz
    • Upgrade Options: Four DIMM slots, 64GB max capacity

The HP EliteDesk 800 G6 has a comprehensive set of networking features. Wi-Fi 6 enables fast, reliable wireless connectivity, even in congested environments with many devices. Gigabit Ethernet provides a stable wired connection for bandwidth-heavy tasks like large file transfers and video conferencing. Bluetooth 5 allows wireless peripherals like keyboards and headsets to be used from a distance. The diverse networking options make the EliteDesk 800 G6 adaptable to various work setups and locations.

    • Wi-Fi Standard: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
    • Ethernet: Gigabit Ethernet port
    • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5

Ports image of Ports

Despite its compact size, the HP EliteDesk 800 G6 has an impressive array of ports. The front houses four USB-A ports, including a fast charging port, plus a USB-C port and combo audio jack for easy access. The rear offers four more USB-A ports, Ethernet, and dual DisplayPort outputs for multi-monitor setups. The variety of ports provides flexibility for connecting peripherals and displays. However, some ports are tightly spaced, which may block adjacent ports when using larger plugs.

    • USB Ports: 8 USB Type-A (4 front, 4 rear), 1 USB Type-C (front)
    • Video Outputs: 2 DisplayPort
    • Audio Jacks: 1 combo headphone/microphone jack
    • Other Ports: 1 Gigabit Ethernet port

    • Warranty and Support: 1-year limited hardware warranty, online support resources

To gauge its handling of large databases, we deployed this device in several corporate offices and business settings, where it garnered positive feedback for its performance. Users found it to be fairly capable without encountering significant issues.

However, when tasked with basic video editing, the PC's performance fell short due to its inefficient GPU and inadequate cooling system, resulting in below-par performance.

Expectations were tempered when it came to high-end gaming, although it managed to handle casual games with ease. Streaming gameplay, however, proved challenging, with noticeable performance drops attributed mainly to the inefficient GPU.

Photo editing was a smoother experience, albeit with a notable increase in internal temperature during prolonged usage for testing purposes.
