Design & Build

Design & Build image of Design & Build

HP ProDesk 600 G4 features a compact small form factor design that minimizes its footprint while still offering good expandability. The black chassis has a clean, professional aesthetic suitable for any office environment. Despite its size, the case provides tool-less access for easy upgrades and maintenance. Front ports and a headset jack allow convenient access. However, the small size limits internal expansion compared to larger desktops.

    • Form Factor: Small Form Factor (SFF) desktop
    • Dimensions: 3.7 x 11.7 x 10.6 inches (9.5 x 29.6 x 26.9 cm)
    • Weight: 12.13 lbs (5.5 kg)

Processor

Processor image of Processor

It's powered by an Intel Core i5-8500 processor. This 8th generation CPU offers 6 cores and 6 threads, providing strong multi-core performance for everyday productivity tasks and light multitasking. The 3.0 GHz base clock speed ensures snappy responsiveness, while the 4.1 GHz max turbo frequency allows the processor to ramp up for more demanding workloads. However, it may struggle with heavily multi-threaded applications compared to higher core count CPUs. Overall, the Core i5-8500 is a capable processor that balances performance and efficiency for general office use.

    • Processor Model: Intel Core i5-8500
    • Base Clock Speed: 3.0 GHz
    • Turbo Boost: Up to 4.1 GHz
    • Processing Units: 6 cores / 6 threads

Graphics

Graphics image of Graphics

This HP ProDesk Desktop relies on integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630. This GPU is suitable for general computing tasks, video playback, and light graphics work. It can handle multiple displays for improved productivity. However, the lack of dedicated graphics memory limits its capabilities compared to discrete GPUs. It is not recommended for demanding visual workloads like 3D rendering, video editing, or gaming. The UHD Graphics 630 is adequate for typical office use but a dedicated GPU would be beneficial for graphics-intensive fields.

    • GPU Model: Intel UHD Graphics 630
    • Performance Level: Integrated/Entry-level
    • Suitable Uses: General computing, light graphics work, multi-monitor setups

Storage

Storage image of Storage

The Desktop comes equipped with a 500GB mechanical hard disk drive (HDD). This provides ample storage capacity for documents, media, and applications. However, HDDs are slower than solid state drives, which can impact boot times, file transfers, and application load speeds. 500GB should be sufficient for most users but those with large file collections may require additional storage. The HDD is a cost-effective option but an SSD would offer snappier performance.

    • Storage Type: Mechanical Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
    • Capacity: 500 GB
    • Expandability: Additional storage can be added

Memory

Moreover, it includes 8GB of DDR4 RAM. This is a good baseline for general multitasking, allowing you to run multiple applications simultaneously without significant slowdowns. However, those working with large files or running memory-intensive software may benefit from 16GB or more. The RAM operates at 2666 MHz, which is fast enough to keep up with the processor. 8GB will be adequate for most users but the option to upgrade provides flexibility for more demanding scenarios.

    • RAM Size: 8 GB
    • Type: DDR4
    • Speed: 2666 MHz
    • Upgrade Options: RAM is upgradeable

Network

The computer has a range of networking features for connecting to both wired and wireless networks. It includes Intel Wireless-AC 9560 which supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for fast and reliable wireless connectivity. This is suitable for most home and office environments. Gigabit Ethernet is also included for high-speed wired connections, which is ideal for transferring large files or streaming media. Bluetooth 5 allows you to connect wireless peripherals like keyboards and headsets. The networking capabilities are well-rounded and should meet the needs of most users in various settings.

    • Wi-Fi Standard: Intel Wireless-AC 9560 (Wi-Fi 5)
    • Ethernet: Gigabit Ethernet port
    • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5

Ports

There are good selection of ports for connecting peripherals and external devices. The front panel includes USB Type-A and Type-C ports, as well as a headset jack for easy access. The rear offers additional USB ports, DisplayPort and VGA for video output, and an Ethernet jack for wired networking. The inclusion of both older and newer USB standards ensures compatibility with a wide range of accessories. However, it lacks an HDMI port which may be an issue for some displays. Overall, the port selection is comprehensive and should accommodate most users' needs.

    • USB Ports: 6 USB Type-A, 1 USB Type-C
    • Video Outputs: DisplayPort 1.2, VGA
    • Audio Jacks: Headphone/microphone combo jack
    • Other Ports: Gigabit Ethernet
