Verdict

The HP Envyx360 notebook comes with a big screen measuring 15.6 inches. The buyers always prefer a bigger screen for clear images and solid audio. However, the plus point is overshadowed by its lack luster screen, short battery life and loose hinges.

The design is pretty good though never feels superb as you will get far better-looking models in the similar price range. Silver finishing is not a signature feature of Envyx360.

If you are a game enthusiast, you may have lot of fun while playing on it. However, the hard-core gamers will definitely prefer the dedicated gaming systems for their purpose.

Performance – Processing Power

HP’s Envy offers excellent speed for solid multitasking. The Envy that we tested rocks with an 8th generation i-7-8550U quad core processor and 16GB of RAM.

It scores 10,079 on the Geekbench performance yardstick. The point is slightly below mainstream notebook average (11,040). On the performance front, Dell Inspiron notched up a higher score.

Let us now switch our attention to HDD of HP Envy x360. The notebook makes space for a 1TB SATA HDD that rotates 7200/minute.

It takes the HDD 3 minutes and 4 seconds for copying a 4.7GB multimedia file. If it sounds great for you, let us tell that the figure is much above the average standard.

Out experts performed OpenOffice macro test on this Intel Envy x360 model and it took 3 minutes 21 seconds to complete the test.

It is below the average mark set at 4:16 but on this front, the HP Envyx360 outsmarts Spectre and Yoga.

Benchmarks

CPU

1. For a better understanding of HP Envy x360 15’s real processing capabilities, one needs to study the benchmarks of its processing units. Geekbench 5 is a very popular benchmarking scale.

On this website, one can get two types of scores for the processors. One is the single core score, which depends upon the performing capabilities of the processor when it uses its one core.

The other one is the multi-core score which indicates its performing capabilities with multiple cores. The most effective way to understand these scores is to compare them with that of others.

On browser.geekbench.com, the Intel Core i7-8550U has a single core score of 878. It is 2622 for the multi-core score. Intel Core i7-8650U is a very close competitor of the Intel Core i7-8550U.

Its single core score and multi-core scores are respectively 902 and 2735. From these scores, we can easily conclude that from the performance perspective, the Intel Core i7-8650U is a far better processor than the Intel Core i7-8550U.

So we can say that the Lenovo ThinkPad T480s can generate smoother and better processing than the HP Envy x360 15 because the Lenovo laptop has the better processor.

From the same perspective, we can say the Acer Swift 3 SF3, which is equipped with Intel Core i5-8250U is an inferior laptop to the HP Envy x360 15. The Intel Core i5-8250U’s single-core and multi-core scores on Geekbench 5 are 771 and 1971 respectively.

2. 61.2% is the average benchmark score for the Intel Core i7-8550U reported by UserBenchmark. Out of 1355 processors that this website has tested, it takes 527th place. So we can conclude that it is not a very efficient and reliable processor for the users of this time.

3. On the 3DMark Time Spy Physics Test, the Intel Core i7-8550U scores 2686. Its 3DMark rank is 198.

4. Cpubennchmark.net is another very reputed benchmarking site. According to this site, the ‘Average CPU Mark’ of the Intel Core i7-8550U is 6003.

The ‘Single Thread Rating’ of the chip is 2081. Its overall rank is 1085. Based on the analysis of 5462 samples, the experts of this site have found that the margin of error of this processor is very low.

On the ‘CPU Mark Relative to Top 10 Common Laptop CPUs’ list this Intel i7 processor has taken the lowest position.

GPU

1. The Intel HD Graphics 620 has got an ‘Average G3D Mark’ of 923. The average G2D mark of this processor is 218 and 905 is its overall ranking. This GPU is not a very popular or trending one.

Its performance is not so satisfactory. For this reason, this GPU is unable to take any noteworthy position in the performance-related chart of the ‘Videocard Benchmarks’.

2. The Intel HD Graphics 620 scored 337 in the ‘3DMark Time Spy Graphics Score’ test. The 3DMark rank of this integrated GPU is 194.

3. Out of 681 GPUs that the UserBenchmark had tested, the Intel HD Graphics 620 ranks 391. Its average bench score is 4.6%.

Design & Build

The HP Envyx360 looks smart in black. Sleek design picks up glares of the target buyers. In fact, look is an important determining factor while buying a notebook or rejecting it outright.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Exterior View

Fortunately, it is not the sole criterion for most buyers.

The device feels satisfactorily strong and durable. However, the signature aesthetic style of the HP Envy model often gets lost in the crowd of silver laptops.

Though the users will find it extremely easy to rotate the screen from the laptop mode to tablet modes, our experts found its 360-degree too weak to rely on.

Another flaw that our team found is the screen shudders and shakes even at the mild taps on the touch-screen.

Display

The Envyx360 delivers neat and clean pictures on its 15.6-inch wider screen. However, the display suffers due to low brightness and black color.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Display

The Intel-supported Envyx360 model is able to produce more than 75% of the sRGB spectrum. Still on this ground, Envy falls much below the average standard that is 102 percent.

Even the Yoga and Spectre produce higher ratings – 114 and 130 percent respectively. The notebook produces 186 nits of brightness and it is a paltry figure as per the current standard.

Not surprising that such amount of brightness leads to a situation that requires you to view the screen head on, as the images looks significantly darker towards both sides.

If it comes to effectiveness of touchscreen, the model is not reliable at all. What we want to tell you that don’t expect it to respond to a soft touch. Check out HP Envy x360-15 user guide.

In fact, it needs a heavy touch to start working. We have a solution for the problem. Download the HP Consumer Notebook/Desktop PC ME Firware Update. Once you apply it, smooth and speedy swipe gestures are a strong guarantee.

Graphics

The manufacturer has tossed a separate graphics processor into the slot and it shares the burden with main Intel processor.

Having a dedicated processor to deal with the graphics needs and tasks surely enhances notebook performance. The feature is particularly favoured if you are playing games on it.

The HP Envyx360 notebook is a multitasking system. However, it produces mixed results depending on what you are using it for.

If it comes to gaming, the system offers satisfactory performance but expect to enjoy zero fun if you run demanding professional apps on the system. The Intel-powered Envyx360 model delivers 54fps at a resolution of 1920×1020 pixels.

On this front, the system clearly crosses the 30-fps threshold but lags behind the average mark of 97-fps. But if we compare with other models, well the HP system lags behind Dell Inspiron, Yoga and Spectre.

On another standard graphic test (3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited Graphics Test), the system amassed 68,187 points whereas the mainstream average measures 100,129.

The Yoga crossed the three-digit figure and Spectre notched up the highest mark, 134, 129.

Storage

We have already mentioned that the Envyx360 system integrates a 1TB HDD under its lid. The capacity is enough to store files in a larger number.

We are not talking about less memory-hungry text files but also about high-end games, graphics, images, songs as well as movies and all these take up a huge amount of space. The HDD spins at 7200rpm.

Still it is not enough as per the current standard. In most of its compatriots, HDD takes lesser amount of time to copy larger multimedia files. However, the system won’t leave you frustrated on this ground.

Battery Life

Battery life is a big concern for the new-age buyers. On the ground, the Intel version of Envyx360 offers satisfactory result.

It relieves you of frequent plugging of your device, especially when you are traveling. Still, other devices in the same price range offer a far superior battery life.

Additional Specifications

The Envyx360 from HP comes endowed with an array of features. It is a bet that you will be amazed to see the list of additional specs. The list is long and impressive as well. Let us start with Bluetooth connectivity.

The notebook supports wired and wireless connection. The system comes with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 combination, dual speakers, Bang & Olufsen and multi-touch gesture supported HP Imagepad.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Speaker

Talking about ports, we have spotted them in the right number to support several external devices. You can find 1 USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1, 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1, 1 HDMI and 1 microphone/headphone combination.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Ports

Keyboard and Touchpad will find a special mention in our discussion for the right reasons. The keypad offers a satisfying typing experience.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Keyboard

The only complaint against it is the keyboard produces loud sound during typing. You may even feel that you’re drumming on the desk instead of running your fingers on the keyboard.

However, the keyboard is spacious and the keys are rightly spaced out to offer a comfortable feel while allowing your fingers to graze on it.

The touchpad quickly recognizes the navigation gestures supported on Windows 10. With it, you will experience accurate tracking of inputs. The system allows you to work with Windows Ink in each of its four modes.

HP Envy x360 Laptop Trackpad

We found the webcam working satisfactorily and do think it will fit bare necessities.

What Do Users Think?

Our experts have talked to few users and compiled their opinion about this product.

We won’t say that this HP receives a mix reaction from the users. Without mincing words, we will put it straight that the Envy x360 brought a blot in HP’s reputation.

Some users have gone further to swear that they will never buy a HP notebook.

Some people are furious at poor HP customer care service. They have complained that the newly bought system showed disturbances within a few weeks and they had to wait long to get responses from the customer care department. Now that sounds disturbing.

Some users are complaining about its becoming hot in a few minutes.

In their words, it gets too hot to place on the lap”. HP needs to address the issue in their next version.

Some of the users are using it since 2017 and some purchased in the year of 2018 & 2019. We will keep an eye on user experience of HP envy x360 in the year of 2020.

Our Testing & Analysis Report

Testing on the Geekbench yardstick, the CPU of the HP Envy x360 scored a bit more than 10000 points, which is a little lower than the standard 11000 points scored by mainstream laptops.

We also tested the CPU on browser.geekbench.com and found that it scored 878 points for its single-core performance and 2622 points for multicore performance.

The average benchmark score of the CPU is 61.2% on the UserBenchmark, and when we tested it on the 3DMark Time Spy Physics test and Cpubenchmark.net, it scored 2686 and 6003 points respectively.

All these sores are good but nothing exceptional and hence we concluded that the performance of the CPU is quite good but nothing extraordinary.

As for the integrated graphics chip of the system, its average G3D and G2D mark is 923 and 218 respectively, which is once again quite average.

When we tested it on the Video Card Benchmarks and 3DMark Time Spy Graphics test, the sores were nothing extraordinarily different either.

And on the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited Graphics test it scored 68187 points, which is again lower than the standard 100000+ of mainstream laptops.

With an overall bench score of 4.6% on average, it can hardly manage to render images at a frame rate higher than 30 fps, which is far too little.

While testing the display of the laptop, our team of experts found that it is reasonably good but needs heavy touches and it shakes and shudders when tapped.

The images are however reasonably clear producing more than 75% of the sRGB color gamut but not exceptionally high. The images are not very vivid due to their low brightness in the mid-200s.

The keyboard and touchpad of the system are quite good to use with adequately large and well-spaced keys that have reasonably good travel and tactility.
