Design and Build

It is the elegant and sleek design of the laptop that is most appealing in addition to its high-performance level.

This machine is light in weight and comes with a lot of ports, but the most unique and significant aspect of its design is the adaptive screen pad.

This doubles as a second screen allowing you to do small side jobs without looking at the main screen.

This screen pad not only makes up the absence of a separate 10-key numeric keypad on the keyboard but also allows you to create shortcuts for the favorite apps to launch with a single tap and extend your viewing options.

This intelligent touchpad adapts easily to what you are doing on the computer and will even help you to complete it very quickly.

You will have the control on Excel, Word, or PowerPoint at your fingertip. Check out Best Laptops for Game Development.

Use it as a music player to adjust volumes or change tracks, launch the calculator app built-in in a single tap, sync the Windows Calendar to quickly check your schedule.

Use it as a number keypad for faster data entry, check your emails or social media account, and use it as a handy preview screen.

All these can be done without interrupting what you are doing on the main screen.

Built from a solid metal, the unibody of this prestigious machine has an all-aluminum finish that keeps it light and thin apart from giving it a touch of elegance and sophistication.

It is a mark of precision craftsmanship, design, and engineering which, ideally, is the hallmark of any ZenBook.

The 4K UHD display delivers images that are more vivid, clearer, and sharper than ever.

It comes with a Nano Edge design to offer a higher body to screen ratio of 83% due to the ultra-slim bezel that provides more screen real estate in a small space.

The touch feature is good and truly responsive. The factory-calibrated color accuracy along with the Pantone validation allows you to see the images with all minute details in it.

The backlit keyboard is also designed to offer the best typing experience whether you have a larger or smaller hand-size.

The keys comes with a good 1.5 mm key travel distance that ensures more accuracy in typing, even in the dark or dimly lit settings.

Performance

The device is powered with the latest Intel Core i9 processor that belongs to the 8th generation.

It has 12 MB cache and can operate at a speed ranging between 2.90 GHz and 4.8 GHz, which will increase its multi-thread performance significantly.

The low TDP of 45 W and a bus speed of 8 GT/s also ensures that the data strings thrown at it are processed at an incredibly fast pace.

The system is also equipped with a gaming grade graphics card, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti, which comes with 4 GB of dedicated memory.

This allows faster and seamless image production and delivery even during photo editing, game development, or simple 4K video playback.

The Windows 10 Pro operating system enables you to do much more than other lower variants of Windows operating systems.

With its features, both operational and security, you will find it much easier to perform your tasks on this laptop.

RAM & Storage

The unit comes with 16 GB of DDR4 SDRAM with a bandwidth of 2400 MHz which is enough for multitasking with numerous browser tabs and apps open at the same time.

The 512 GB storage is also equally good to offer a large space to save your projects, even those that take large space, such as games that you may have created.

The PCIe x 4 NVMe SSD allows quick access to these files when required as well as faster boot up of the system and apps.

This SSD increases the performance and read and write speeds further by up to 3000 Mbps and 1700 Mbps respectively.

This is ideally double the read and write speeds of most of the PCIe x2 SATA 3 drives in laptops.

Ports & Connectivity

It offers extensive and fast connectivity with the inclusion of the most versatile Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C port.

Not one, but two of these ports ensure an ultrafast connection to all your external devices and peripherals.

There are also a few other high-performing ports included on the two sides of the chassis of this device that allows you to connect more and do more, whether you are on the road or in the office, making the device more versatile and flexible.

There are two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A ports, one HDMI pot, as well as a Micro SD card reader slot, apart from audio jack and DC jack.

If you want a faster internet connection and wireless data transfer, the system offers you wi-fi 5 or 802.11AC wireless networking as well as Bluetooth 4.1 support.

The dual band wi-fi 5 802.11AC standard is much faster than wi-fi 4 or 802.11N standard with its speed of up to 1734 Mbps, which is about 12 times the speed of Wi-Fi 4.

Battery Life

The 71-watt-hour lithium polymer battery however is unable to cross the average mark when it comes to battery power.

Depending on the type of usage, you can expect a power supply ranging between 5 and 8 hours, maximum.

Runtime can also vary depending on whether you enable or disable the trackpad display. However, the battery runtime of this system is merely average, either this way or the other.

However, on the flip side, the good news is that this battery comes with fast charging technology that allows it to go from 0% to 60% of its total capacity in just about 49 minutes.

Additional Features

Adding to the security aspect of the laptop, it allows a single touch access to it via the fingerprint sensor integrated on the right side of the palm rest just below the ‘fn’ key and Harman Kardon logo.

This makes the access easy, fast and prevents any unauthorized person from reaching to your files.

The audio system of this device promises a decent sound quality from the Harman Kardon speakers integrated in it.

The bass is decent even at wider frequencies. However, the chassis seems to reverberate while playing music even at half the total volume since these are placed closer to the palm rest.

This may cause potential distraction while gaming or doing any intensive word processing jobs.

Apart from the Windows 10 Pro, other software that comes included in this system are McAfee Live Safe, WPS Office and a lot of Asus apps such as Splendid for selecting screen color profiles, a registration app, and Battery Health for charging options.

What Do Users Think about Asus ZenBook Pro 15 UX580GE?

Most of the users said that this is a very nice laptop that starts up fast, runs smoothly, and loads everything in quick time.

The screen quality is good and the touch screen feature is very useful.

It allows easy navigation and doing all types of computing tasks, simple and complex jobs such as game development, photo editing, and even gaming.

The screen pad is a unique and a great option that attracted most of the users. Its multi-functionality comes very handy to them a lot of times allowing it to be made into a secondary touch screen display.

However, they said that it would have been more useful and nicer if it came loaded with a few more apps to support the performance of the screen pad and enhance its functionality and utility even more.

Few users were very specific about the minor glitches they encountered while using the system.

One such issue they faced was the occasional coil whine while using it.

Surprisingly, they also said that in spite of a sophisticated cooling system integrated, the system seems to heat up pretty fast especially while doing complex tasks on it and this heat can be felt on the lap.

The battery life is also not the best in class, offering as little as 4 to 5 hours on a full charge on performance mode and about 6 to 8 on full power saver mode.

The flex in the cable that attaches the screen to the motherboard is also another concern pointed out by a few other users.

It moves every time the screen is opened giving a feeling that it will break off.

However, overall, they said the laptop is good in performance otherwise, providing full value for their money, but for the average battery life that they wished to be a bit longer.

This laptop helps in assignments that involve AI, video processing, and others without fail or struggle, said some users.

The price-performance ratio is quite impressive, they added. Check out ZenBook Pro 15 UX580GE Manual.

Yes, there are a few downsides to it but overall, the laptop is well built and has all the powerful specs required to handle software intensive tasks such as game development and even astrophotography editing.

There are no major complaints about the laptop, said others.

The keyboard is nice and comfy, the track pad is cool which allows doing small side jobs without needing to use the main screen, the Bluetooth 5 helps in connecting other Bluetooth-enabled devices much faster and easier, and the performance is consistent and high.

They just wanted the camera to be of better quality and performance.

Other Expert Views

The laptop comes with high-end specs and is good for high-end computing tasks and gaming, said NotebookCheck. However, the battery life is far from modest and what is advertised and that is quite predictable in such a system, they said.

PCMag applauds the idea of Asus to design a touchpad that doubles as a second screen, making it unique. However, they feel that there are too many modes and features included into the device, and the Screen Pad mode needs a lot of improvement.

Ultrabook review says that this is a great computer for the content creators, graphics professionals, and game developers to use. Its look and excellent hardware configuration are well appreciable, barring the coil whine issue.
